Fleet GPS tracking reviews, and what the tracking vendors publish for a device, a subscription and a contract

A fleet tracking quote is three numbers wearing one name: the device, the monthly subscription per vehicle, and the contract that locks both in. Reviews rarely separate them, and the vendors rarely publish all three on one page. This section reads the published prices side by side, in the same unit, so a review's verdict can be checked against what the vendor actually charges.

For US, the median published figure in the Fleet GPS Pricing Index is 14.95 USD across 9 figures from the sources' own pages (range 2 to 79 USD; 13 sources publish a figure), read 12 October 2026.

How to read a fleet tracking price before you sign for a fleet

  1. Put every quote in one unit. Vendors quote a device price, a per-vehicle monthly fee, or a bundled figure over a 36-month term. Convert each to a cost per vehicle per month over the whole contract before comparing, because a free device on a long term is usually the dearest option on the table.
  2. Ask what the subscription leaves out. Driver behaviour scoring, dashcam video, ELD compliance and API access are often separate tiers. A review that praises a feature may be describing a plan two tiers above the price it quotes, so match the feature list to the tier before you read the verdict.
  3. Read the contract term and the exit. Most fleet tracking contracts run 36 months with automatic renewal and an early termination fee per vehicle. The exit terms decide the real price of a bad choice, and they are on the order form rather than the pricing page.
  4. Check the law for what a tracker may record. Federal hours-of-service rules require an electronic logging device on most commercial vehicles, and state laws set what a business may track and what a driver must be told. A tracker that records more than the law allows is a liability, whatever the review says.

Questions buyers ask about this

How much does fleet GPS tracking cost per vehicle?
The Outsourced IT Quotes Fleet GPS Pricing Index at the top of this page reads each vendor's own pricing page: 13 of the 34 sources read publish a price, and its headline figure is 14.95 USD. The device is either bundled into a multi-year term or sold outright, so turn both into a cost per vehicle per month before comparing.
Do I need an ELD as well as a GPS tracker?
If the vehicle falls under federal hours-of-service rules, yes: the ELD mandate is separate from tracking. Many trackers are certified as ELDs, which is one line to check on the vendor's page rather than an assumption to make.
Can a business track a vehicle without telling the driver?
Company-owned vehicles may generally be tracked, but several states require notice to the driver and restrict tracking outside work hours. The vehicle tracking law dataset in this section lists what each state's statute says.
